Directions

Directions to Parleboscq:

To find the location of Marsans castel in Parleboscq, use the GPS coordinates: Latitude N43 55.300, Longitude E0 02.057 (WGS 84).

When driving in France, keep in mind that they drive on the right side of the road. It is important to be cautious while starting off again after a stop or when turning right, as these can be the riskiest moments when driving on the opposite side. French drivers tend to drive close to you, so avoid harsh braking to prevent any accidents. Flashing headlights in France indicate a warning or a request to get out of the way, unlike in the UK where it usually means "after you." Be prepared for regular paper checks by the gendarmes or police, so make sure to carry your driving licence and all the required car documents, including the logbook. Non-residents are expected to pay on-the-spot fines if they do not have the necessary documents. Not speaking French or pretending not to understand will not work, as the fine forms are usually available in multiple languages, and they may even take you to a cash machine to get the money.

Speed limits are enforced in France, and on most roads, it is 50 kilometers per hour (30mph) in towns, 90 kilometers per hour (56mph) on ordinary roads outside of towns, 110 kilometers per hour (70mph) on dual carriageways, and 130 kilometers per hour (81mph) on motorways. These limits are reduced by 20 kilometers per hour in the rain. On-the-spot fines are issued for most offenses, including speeding, with fines ranging from £80 to £150.

Traffic jams are common on motorways, especially during summer, particularly at toll booths (peages). Look out for large vans on the side of the motorway with signs that say "BOUCHON" to indicate a traffic jam ahead. Most motorways in France require payment, either through a set price for a short distance or by taking a ticket and paying at the end of the trip. When approaching a toll booth, choose a lane with a person taking the money, usually indicated by a sign with a man and a green arrow. Avoid the automated lanes to prevent any complications.

Service stations and rest areas, known as Aire de Repos, are available on motorways and are recommended, especially at night, as some remote lay-bys have been known for highway robberies. It is important to note that speed limit signs are often combined with town signs in France. When a town name is on a sign edged in red, it indicates a 50 kilometers per hour speed limit, unless otherwise indicated. The speed limit ends when the town sign has a red line through it. Be cautious of the rule of "prioritie a droite" in some towns and on quiet rural routes, which gives right of way to traffic joining from the right.
