In the realm between history and legend lies the majestic Mt Viso, known as the "stone king," standing tall at 3841 meters. This captivating mountain has enchanted travelers throughout the ages. Located in the Marquisate, an Occitan territory in the Po valley where Italy's longest river originates, this land is adorned with castles, abbeys, and monasteries. Monks, merchants, knights, and brigands once traversed its ancient mule tracks and dirt roads.

One notable route, the mythical "road of salt," served as a crucial passage to France for both men and goods such as salt, anchovies, oil, spices, textiles, and various wares. In this region, you will find the excavated "Mt Viso hole," an irregular tunnel spanning 75 meters under the Traversette col at an altitude of 2882 meters. This tunnel facilitated the passage of laden mules and stooped men.

Merchants from Dauphiné, Provence, and Burgundy journeyed from farm to farm, crossing the Alps, descending the hills, and arriving in the plains. Many of these travelers sought respite at the ancient inn where Virginia warmly greeted her guests, offering a smile, a hot meal, and the comforting warmth of the fireplace.

Presently, after extensive restoration efforts, the "Virginia" has reopened its doors. Step inside and be enveloped by the rustic and cozy ambiance of the past, with its stone, wood, terracotta, and antique furnishings. The rooms exude a warm atmosphere reminiscent of rural homes, adorned with wooden and wrought-iron beds, wardrobes, and desks that reflect folk culture, while the curtains evoke the Occitan boiserie found in ancient mansions.

Our guests can enjoy the spacious common areas, including a sitting room, breakfast and dining room, and a library with a fireplace, perfect for relaxation. Descend to the basement to discover a vast cellar where you can taste wines and sample the typical products of this Occitan territory.

This charming and captivating place allows you to rediscover yourself and explore forgotten traditions and cultures. We offer six double rooms and one triple room, all with private bathrooms.
