Description for B&B:

Welcome to The House of Stone!

This captivating tale follows a family house nestled in the heart of the Auvergne. The owner's deep affection for the area drives the desire to share the small pleasures that make life here so special.

Discover Vernet Sainte Marguerite, a picturesque village perched over 1000 meters above sea level. It rests amidst the breathtaking landscapes that give rise to the Monne river and mark the transition from the southernmost volcano in the chain of Puys to the towering slopes of Sancy. Ascending the D5 road towards Sancy offers a never-ending feast for the eyes, with the plateau of Vernet Sainte Marguerite serving as a true test for adventurous drivers in winter.

This charming cottage, classified as 3 stars and accommodating 4 people, is perfectly situated for hiking enthusiasts. It serves as an ideal base camp for those eager to explore both the volcanic craters and the peaks of the Massif roof Central.

The house itself boasts a beautiful slate roof, exuding an atmosphere of "raw wood and animal skins" complemented by antique decor. From old boxing gloves to vintage squash racquets and even old transistor horns hanging as trophies, the owner's collection adds a touch of nostalgia. Modern comforts are discreetly integrated, with a pellet stove tucked between the hutch and buffet, a cozy couch, and a TV screen hidden in a cabinet joinery that harkens back to a time when the ORTF was in its early stages. The kitchen, with its open counter leading to the dining room, may have a touch of nostalgia but lacks a dishwasher.

To chase the sun, breakfast can be enjoyed on both the deck and the balcony, offering sweeping views of the charming and rural heritage of Vernet Sainte Marguerite. Take in the village church, the square with its monument to the soldiers of past wars, the town hall, the fountain, and the wash house where you may even catch a glimpse of women still doing their laundry. In the distance, admire the majestic Puy Allou.

Ascend the wooden staircase to the attic where you'll find the sleeping area, with two bedrooms - one featuring a double bed (140) and the other with two single beds (90). The bathroom and toilet are conveniently located in the living room.

Situated between Lake Chambon and Lake Aydat, and surrounded by the Nordic areas of Pessade and Beaune le Froid, as well as the peaks of Puy Balladou and the gorges of the Monne, The House of Stone is the perfect retreat to experience the beauty of the Auvergne in every season.

Description for Gite

This charming house features a beautiful slate roof and serves as the perfect retreat for those seeking a rustic atmosphere with elements of "raw wood and animal skins". The owner has carefully curated a collection of antique decor, including old boxing gloves, squash racquets, and hanging horns that resemble trophies. While the house embraces a vintage vibe, modern comforts are discreetly incorporated, such as a pellet stove nestled between the hutch and buffet, a cozy couch, and a concealed TV screen housed within a cabinet crafted by skilled artisans from a time when ORTF had yet to be established. The kitchen, although quaint and charming, boasts an open counter that connects seamlessly with the dining room, yet lacks a dishwasher. Ascending the wooden staircase will lead you to the attic, where you will find the sleeping quarters consisting of two bedrooms - one furnished with a comfortable double bed (140) and the other with two single beds (90). The bathroom and toilet are conveniently located on the upper floor. To follow the sun's rays, you can enjoy breakfast on the deck or the balcony, while taking in the picturesque sights of Vernet Sainte Marguerite's quaint and rural heritage. From the balcony, you can admire the village church, the square with its monument honoring soldiers from both World Wars, the town hall, the fountain, and the washhouse where you may even catch a glimpse of locals performing their daily chores. In the distance, you can spot the majestic puy Allou, completing the panoramic view.
