Dar Al Bahar, also known as the House by the Sea, is a perfectly fitting name for this remarkable establishment. Situated on the city ramparts in Essaouira's "San Dion" district, it proudly faces the vast ocean and the invigorating trade winds that accompany it. The terrace offers a breathtaking view of the perpetual motion, as the winds crash against the coastal rocks, providing a truly mesmerizing spectacle. Additionally, the terrace provides a panoramic outlook on the medina, including the ancient Scala's northern fort and the Mellah, the former Jewish quarter. Furthermore, the distant sight of sand dunes is visible, as they extend to the city's outskirts in the north.

Jean-Claude and Lise, a delightful French-Dutch couple, have meticulously restored this house, which was originally constructed at the turn of the previous century. In those times, this area of Essaouira was bustling with activity, thanks to the presence of an authentic windmill - now a mere ruin - that once supplied flour to the city and surrounding regions. The street still bears the name Touahen, meaning "mill" in Arabic, paying homage to its historical significance.

Today, the serenity of this location remains undisturbed, save for the crashing waves and the cries of seagulls.
